In 1980, Canadian metal band Sword was formed by brothers Rick (Vocals) & Dan Hughes(Drums), Mike Plant(Guitars) & Mike Larock (Bass). 1986 saw the release of their debut album ”Metalized”, it was welcomed by critics, and would become a reference as one of the top-heavy metal albums of the 80’s. It was followed by the equally strong ”Sweet Dreams” in 1988. Subsequent world tours would follow the release of these two albums including opening spots with Metallica (MOP), Metal Church, Alice Cooper and Motörhead.
They would pause in 1992 after lack of support from their label as grunge was taking over the music industry.
The guys went on to become prominent local session players, took-over regular jobs, had kids and lived normal lives…
That is until 2011 when the inevitable happened: Sword re-grouped.
Doing only on demand shows as of late, including a headlining spot at the Harder than Steel festival in Germany and a stint of sold out shows in Canada. They are now working on the long awaited 3rd studio recording (They did release the Live Hammersmith in 2016). Both these albums are to be distributed on Dave Ellefson’s Combat Records. They also plan to go on tour to support the new recording. Oh yes… They’re back!
